1st and 2nd Projects
After getting a new desktop PC I was finally able to run blender! excited at learning and exploring this FREE creative tool Jumped right into the deep end with my first project as I had previous 3D modelling tools under my belt (Autocad/Solidworks).
Skipping the donut tutorial I went straight into modelling a fully rigged character that I could animate. After struggling with the camera controls for a few minutes and getting a handle on Blender, I started by picking a reference; at the time Tesla’s new Optimus robot was revealed and I knew what I was going to create. I got together as many angles of the robot that I thought would help and got to work shaping a square into a robot.
once the shape matched my reference angles I started to group the faces into the different materials that I saw. The end model could be improved by outsourcing the materials textures and finding high resolution free online but I wanted to my first project with the tools I had on hand. After some texture tweaking, a background and lighting it was coming together.
Last thing to do was to create the skeleton to animate the model which was quite easy since Blender has a simple tool for this step.
Last step was to animate my model and bring it to life.
I also put my model through a AI lens using stable diffusion an in-built Blender add-on. This enhances my 3D model to a more artistic 2D image, the benefit of this is being able to pose my model in any way with the lighting, colours and shapes from my model transferring into the image made. Which helps using this AI image generator to get what you want without putting too much work into the looks. Running the same image with the same prompt does receive different results as the AI is allowed to differ from the image from a percentage you put in before running the AI.
Next project was small but embraced the hard angles that I had used on my first project.
Using this style I tried to get better at creating my own textures and lighting of my models.
I’m excited to continue using Blender and learning this amazing tool!
